Background Loughborough Students Mens Hockey Club are one of the biggest and most successful hockey clubs in the country, competing at the top, both at student and national level. The club also has an excellent reputation for producing many international players. Ex students and players have included Jason Lee (GB & England), Jerome Goudie (GB & England), Glenn Kirkham (GB & England), Barry Middleton (GB & England), Alistair McGregor (GB & Scotland) and Jon Bleby (GB & England). Current students include Richard Smith (Eng), James Osborn (Eng U21) and Marc Edwards (Eng U21). The club currently run 4 teams and compete in the following competitions; 1st XI - National League Premier 1 (Indoor and Outdoor), BUCS Premier league. 2nd XI - 2nd XI Midlands Premier League, BUCS Trophy. 3rd XI - 3rd XI Midlands Premier League, BUCS Trophy 4th XI - Central league, BUCS. All teams train at least twice a week at various times, on either our Waterbased Hockey pitch or the Sandbased Sporturf pitch, and each session will be led by one of our coaches or by a senior player within the club. At the start of every season returning students (mainly 1st and 2nd XI players), and selected new students, will be invited to pre season training, while all first year students will be invited to trials in the first few weeks of term to decide the squads for the season. Any players who do not get into one of our 4 teams will be able to join the development squad and/or join one of the local clubs, with whom we have excellent relationships. Several sport science support services are available, including physiotherapy and massage, with priority being given to 1st XI members. |

Recent success for the club include; 1st XI - Winners of the National Indoor Championships (2003, 2004, 2005, 2008). Winning the European Indoor Challenge 2004. Winning a bronze medal at the European Indoor Trophy 2005. Runners up in the HA Cup 2005. European Hockey League (EHL) Quarter Finalists 2008. BUCS Champions 2001, 2002, 2003, 2007, 2008, 2009 2nd XI - Winners of the HA 2nd XI Cup 2005. 2nd XI Midlands Premier League Champions 2003, 2004.
